Morgan Moses, Chairman
Morgan Moses is an NFL football player and starting offensive tackle for the Washington Redskins franchise. He is a third year player who has already won multiple honors for both his athletic ability and community service.
Morgan won the Ed Block Courage Award from the NFL Players on his team and from the Ed Block Foundation. Morgan was also recognized by the NFL Players Association with the NFLPA Community Service Award for his work coaching local high schools in northern Virginia and mentoring scholar-athletes in Richmond.
Morgan is a native of Richmond and attended Meadowbrook High School where he graduated with below a C Average. He attended post-graduate educational prep at Fork Union, Virginia Academy and raised his grades and learned better study habits and time management skills. He was recruited for football by numerous university programs but chose to play for Mike London at UVA. Morgan distinguished himself as an all-ACC player. He also earned two degrees at University of Virginia with close to a B grade point average.
Morgan was chosen in the third round of the NFL Draft in 2014 and 66th overall.
Morgan launched the Morgan Moses Foundation two years ago and has provided his time and funding to “Motivating Others Through Education” (MOE). The Foundation is focused on service including mentorship and tutoring in Virginia and Maryland.
Morgan is engaged to his fiancé Jessica and has two children, a daughter and a son.
Paul Moses, Co-Chairman
Paul Moses is a Vice President in Dealer Financial Service Group at SunTrust Bank Incorporated. Paul has a proven track record with nearly three decades of marketing and sales in the industry.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Paul received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Union University. He has a legacy of mentoring youth as well as adults in life skills. Paul has the ability to bridge the gap between youth and adults, from organizing financial workshops.
Paul has earned several awards for exceeding sales, to include SunTrust Chairman’s Team; Edge Master. He also worked with Urban Financial Services (Richmond Chapter) in providing mentorship to persons within the financial industry. He supported and worked with non-profit Virginia Heroes with tutoring and mentoring young men within the Richmond Public Schools.
A former chairman of deacons, he motivated his fellow members, coordinated projects and executed on several initiatives based on ministry request.
Paul resides in Glen Allen, VA and has been married for 27 years to Edwinette. They have one daughter.
Mike Smith, Executive Director
Mike Smith is executive director of the Morgan Moses Foundation. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and has over 15 years of experience working with foundations and trade organizations in leadership roles. He works with Morgan and the board of directors to implement mentoring, tutoring and literacy programs dedicated to “Motivating Others through Education.”
Mike is a member of the Fairfax County Public Schools Marketing Advisory Board. He is also a judge for high school and collegiate DECA at the state and national levels. Mike holds both a masters and bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. He has won two national awards for writing and is a regular columnist in several online and print publications.
Mike attended Langley High School and is a native of the northern Virginia area. He also is married and has two children who also graduated from Fairfax County schools.
Mike Smith has worked with the Redskins organization in the past on charity events and fundraisers. He served as Director of Public Affairs for the National Association of Manufacturers and Executive Director of the Manufacturing Institute, Associate Executive Director of the Newspaper Marketing Association and Public Affairs Director of the Sportfishing Industry Association.

Charles H. Horton, Jr., Treasurer
Charles is a seasoned professional with significant experience as a corporate executive in Fortune 100 companies, an entrepreneur whose clientele have included Fortune 500 companies, and an overall broad business background that includes Consulting, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Financial Services, Real Estate, Telecommunications, Business Development, Operations, Marketing, and Retail. His business prowess has been recognized through receiving the CIAA Man of the Year Award and Charlotte Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40.
Charles started his undergraduate education at West Point (United States Military
Academy) on a Congressional Appointment, before transferring to Swarthmore College (Swarthmore, PA) and finishing with a degree in Economics. Through his collegiate career, Charles was also an accomplished football and lacrosse player who received numerous team and conference awards. He received his MBA from Wake Forest University with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Marketing.
In addition to business, Charles is committed to the community. He has volunteered and/or served on numerous organizations and boards, and is currently a member of Wake Forest University’s Alumni Council.
Charles and his wife, Michelle, have been blessed with over 16 years of marriage and have two children, Charles Michael and Chandler.

Michelle D. Connley-Gore, Board Member
Michelle D. Connley-Gore is a strategic marketing expert with more than 15 years of experience in the areas of marketing strategy, communications planning, brand identity, advertising, graphic design process management, ethnic-targeted marketing, community relations, and event design & management. In 2015, Michelle officially started MDC Marketing Group, a marketing and communications consulting firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina that is focused on ensuring that businesses, government entities, and non-profit organizations thrive.
Michelle earned her chops at global ad agency Leo Burnett Worldwide in Chicago on the U.S. Army national advertising business. Michelle then went on to hone her skills at Carol H. Williams Advertising working on the General Motors, Procter & Gamble, and Coca-Cola accounts. Working in the areas of account management and event management, and having a heavy hand in production, media planning, public relations strategy, and new business pursuits, Michelle has developed a strong business acumen and truly understands the creative process from start to finish.
Following her advertising career, Michelle decided to pursue her passion for supporting underserved communities of color by taking a national brand management role at the KIPP Foundation, working in both their Chicago and San Francisco offices. As the Senior Marketing Communications Manager at KIPP, she led the work in creating KIPP’s brand guidelines, national messaging, annual Report Card, affiliate branding and collateral materials, and collaborated across KIPP’s 30+ regions to provide guidance and tools to hundreds of staff who now serve 70,000 students nationwide.
Michelle holds both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Advertising from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also participated in Columbia Business School’s Executive Education Program “Developing Leaders for Nonprofit Professionals.”

Kate Walker, Board Member
Walker has spent over a decade as a leader in the education industry. She is the current Chief Executive Officer of The Princeton Review, a tutoring, test preparation and college readiness company. In addition to her work at The Princeton Review, Kate supports innovation in education through serving as an advisor and mentor to multiple education startups. She holds a BS in Finance and Accounting from Georgetown University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She will leverage her experience to aid the Morgan Moses Foundation in its mission to motivate children through education.
